DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne – Flinders Street has been honoured with Australasia’s Leading New Hotel 2015 awarded by the World Travel Awards.

Over 22 years the World Travel Awards has grown to become recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality for the tourism industry, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire. The annual programme is renowned as the most prestigious and comprehensive in the travel and tourism industry.

In 2014, over 650,000 individual votes were cast by travel professionals and high-end tourism consumers.

Hotel design highlights:

• • Custom-engineered headboards have been created in a three dimensional curved pattern that evokes the pulled back drapery in train carriages. With every light change, the headboard throws different shadows across the room that creates warmth and ambiance.

On-trend bathrooms incorporate station-inspired white subway tiles and blackened metal detailing. The dark tiled floors and vanity stone are an ode to the bluestone pathways seen across the CBD.

• Artisan details and custom made features abound. From the upholsteries to the furniture, the headboards, bathrooms and black and white photography, every detail has been carefully considered and produce to specification.
• Warmly up lit bottles of alcohol run along the length of the front desk/bar and an intriguing artwork has been custom created for the bar.
• A free-standing blackened steel fireplace sitting on a base of cut firewood takes pride of place in the centre of the hotel lobby, marking a subtle start to the hotel’s intimate restaurant. A central, dramatic open kitchen will be the principal feature of the dining room with a centre glass clad, wood-fired grill.
